How does working in a food NGO help in personality development?

Image
In the present times, a large number of food NGOs function in various corners of the country. An NGO is set up with the forethought of providing social support to the less fortunate section of society. Enrolling in an NGO is one of the best decisions that are available for students. Constant interaction with different people of diverse age groups helps in molding the personality of the younger generation.  If you have plans to become a social worker in the future the best way is to utilize your student life. Enroll in a food NGO and closely observe the kind of activities that they organize daily. While I was still a student, I was fortunate enough to get an opportunity to serve at a food NGO . While doing my job, I got a lot of chances to interact with children who hailed from different communities. This helped me understand some of the problems that the people of the deprived sections of society face. The dire need for food among the population especially during any trying...

How can we tackle malnutrition in India?

Image
India is one of the highest-ranking countries in the world for the number of children suffering from malnutrition. I have been working for an online news media for the last 2 years and recently I worked on a documentary regarding malnutrition in India. To prepare the documentary I traveled with my crew to different villages in India and after visiting many villages I realized how critical is the condition of malnutrition in India. Poverty is the primary reason for malnutrition and major steps have to be taken to eradicate poverty. More steps should be taken to address the issue of malnutrition by the governments at the center and the state. Mid-day meal as a solution The mid-day meal programme is a major step taken by the government to fight against the issue of malnutrition. Currently, students till class 8 are getting meals at schools. The government has created a menu to ensure that the students are getting nutritious food. Since the launch of the mid-day meal programmer , ...

Role of NGOs in reducing hunger in our country

Image
In our everyday lives, we see many homeless people and children who are struggling to get even a single meal a day. While growing up, whenever I saw people at traffic signals or on the roadside as they asked for food, I started feeling a sense of responsibility to do something about this issue. As I grew older and started looking for potential solutions, I realized that there are many NGOs in India that are working to put an end to hunger and malnourishment in the country. Once I graduated high school, I started volunteering over the weekends at one of the  top food NGOs in India  whose primary aim is to eradicate malnutrition and hunger amongst children. At present, we are working to provide food to young students under the mid-day meal scheme. While preparing the food, the kitchen staff at the NGO ensures that students get enough nutrition by adding eggs, milk, and vegetables to the wholesome meals. We also distribute special food on the day of occasions or festi...

How do food NGOs help to implement the mid-day meal scheme?

Image
I recently visited a village with my family, where I came across a school, which is very different from a city school. I always wanted my daughter to get a sense of how different children across the country study and that village school solved my purpose. I believe it is important for young children to be aware and acknowledge how people from different strata of society go about their lives. After taking permission from the officials present there, we began looking around the school. The principal went along with us and showed us the classrooms where children were reading textbooks or listening to their teachers. He also showed us the sports field where a few children were playing amongst each other. Soon after, during lunch time, children from the different classes gathered around as they waited for their meals. Once they were served, I saw that the meals included a serving of vegetables, rice, pulses and curd. I did know that these schools came under the purview of the mid-day...

What are the steps I should take before volunteering at an NGO?

Image
Volunteering at children NGOs or charities is a great way to get involved in your community activities. These organizations are established to focus on alleviating different issues that are prevalent in the country. As a volunteer, you will be working towards the same cause and put in your efforts to help out these organizations in any way they require. This volunteering experience will help you improve your skills, collect knowledge while allowing you to make positive changes within your community. On the other hand, your efforts can allow the community members to function at their best, improve the well-being of those around you and support families that aren’t able to support themselves.  Though volunteering is beneficial for both NGOs and volunteers, the process of joining may be a little difficult to understand. There are certain steps that you can take to make the best out of your volunteering journey: Choose a cause that you care about:  Choosing to work with an...

Image
The Zero Hunger Challenge, launched in the year 2015 by the United Nations as part of its Sustainability Development Goals (SDGs). The goal set aims to ensure that every individual has access to adequate nutrition to curb malnourishment and associated problems.  As one of the world’s largest agricultural countries, India produces enough food to feed its population but still faces the issue of widespread hunger. The country is home to 25% of the world’s hungry population, which has been a continuing cause of concern. This has led to issues such as stunted growth amongst children, inability to leverage education, limited labor productivity, and prevailing poverty.  India has been on a mission to eradicate the rampant issue of malnourishment and starvation within the country for several decades. The Government has launched multiple schemes and programs to improve the nutritional status and food security across the country: The mid-day meal scheme: This is a ...
